Newfoundland and Labrador has one of the lowest minimum wages in Canada, resulting in many minimum wage workers earning poverty incomes. We must raise the wage to a fairer level of $15.00 as a step towards a living wage before indexing the minimum wage to inflation.
If government gets its way, our minimum wage will be indexed at its current level, and the lowest-paid workers in the province will be living in poverty forever.
Other Canadian jurisdictions are implementing or considering a $15 minimum wage. Our workers deserve a fair minimum wage, too.
